Fitness for Health

Date and Time: 6 weeks, Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 2-4 PM

Description: Are you living with a chronic health condition and want help getting started with exercise? Join the SGBCHC's Health Promoter to learn how to integrate physical exercise and activity into your life. Program includes cardio and resistance training in a small group setting, and educational sessions about exercise, healthy eating, and your health.

Cost of Program: FREE (a small is paid by participants to the hosting locations - if this is a barrier to participating the fee will be covered)

Location: YMCA or Waterside Retirement Lodge

Nordic Pole Walking

Date and Time: From April - December, Tuesday and Thursday's from 9:45 AM - 11 AM

Description: Interested in trying pole walking? Come walk with peer instructors through forest trails and along the Ontario Parks beach. Poles are provided by the SGBCHC and everyone is welcome to join, from leisurely to fast walkers!

Location: In the YMCA parking lot next to the RecPlex Gazebo

Outside of SGBCHC: Yes, Marie can come to your organization for a pole walking demonstration

 

Maintenance Program

Date and Time: September - June, Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9:30 - 10:30 AM

Description: Clients are encouraged to join the fitness group that meets twice a week to be guided through cardio and resistance training. Participants with no exercise experience are encouraged to register for Fitness for Health first

Location: SGBCHC Multipurpose Room

 

Building Balance

Date and Times: 7 weeks (Mondays and Thursdays) 3 hours

Description: An exercise-based Fall Prevention Program focussed on reducing the incidence of falls and injury/hospitalization for people who are fearful of falling or who are having issues with falls or near falls. 

Referrals to program can be made: Through CHC (health care professional referral); through GBFHT (doctor referral); through CCAC (referral from healthcare professional); through IRFP (referral from healthcare professional); occasional self-referral if patient is not part of CHC or GBFHT

Cost of program: YMCA membership is required for 2 months (approx. $92 for seniors)

Location: Collingwood YMCA and Wasaga Beach YMCA
